I am of the hippie era, and have had hippie friends. Hippies have always taken the position that it is better to get high and make love rather than to fight. Their parents won WWII, and the kids thought war was over for good. Some hippies grew up, and some didn't.

Hippies smoke weed and drop acid. Hipsters, investment bankers and ad agents do coke. I don't know any hippies with enough money to keep up a coke habit. Hippies tend to be suspicious of war in general, not just in companies that supply opium; however, if you do your research, you'll find that opium production in Afghanistan actually increased after the overthrow of the Taliban, as they had been fighting its production for religious reasons. Very few people hate the American government because of its drug policy, per se. The problem with its drug policy is that it takes money away from other programs that are just as important. And our policies on torture, suspending constitutional rights because the executive branch feels like it, and war without a congressional Act of War are much more worrisome. I know I won't change your mind, I just don't want others to read your comment and be so misinformed about the realities of American political life.
