Europeans claim to be smarter than Americans. How do the respond to this?

British pupils 'cannot locate UK'

One in 10 children could not name a single continent

One in five British children cannot find the UK on a map of the world, a magazine's research suggests.

National Geographic Kids said it also found fewer than two thirds of children were able to correctly locate the US.

The magazine, which questioned more than 1,000 six to 14-year-olds, said it found several London children did not know they lived in England's capital.

Teachers' union the NASUWT said the findings were "nonsense" and did not reflect staff and pupils' hard work.

National Geographic Kids also discovered 86% of the children interviewed failed to identify Iraq and one in 10 could not name a single continent.Europeans claim to be smarter than Americans. How do the respond to this?
I just chuckle. Seems like all Countries with the exception of Asia are producing little idiots now days.
Our student's aren't much brighter.

37% of Americans cannot identify America on a map. Not a measly UK. Huge f*cking America.

* Only 37% of young Americans can find Iraq on a map鈥攖hough U.S. troops have been there since 2003.

* 6 in 10 young Americans don't speak a foreign language fluently.

* 20% of young Americans think Sudan is in Asia. (It's the largest country in Africa.)

* 48% of young Americans believe the majority population in India is Muslim. (It's Hindu鈥攂y a landslide.)

* Half of young Americans can't find New York on a map.Europeans claim to be smarter than Americans. How do the respond to this?
How do the respond............?

The more asian immigrants America gets the smarter they get. Of course some of the very bright ones get into gangs.

If GW Bush or his Poppa are considered smart there's definitely a problem.

There's a geography test here. Try it out. Scroll down. Its the big square applet or widget.

Europeans are absolutely much smarter than Americans. It is a continent with many countires bunched together, each with a unique culture and yet they all manage to get along.

United States is one country and, well, you see what's going on in the news.
I've lived in Europe and I have never heard anyone say Europeans are smarter than Americans. I have only heard Americans say that Europeans claim to be smarter.

It is possible that the Europeans who come to the US are here as expats and these ones are smarter than average.
I think both education systems are screwed up.

I am only going into the 11th grade, so I am immersed and surrounded by it.
The US definitely has a class of idiots. They are referred to as liberals but I think Europe also suffers from that same problem and maybe to a higher degree.
So your are saying they are only a little smarter than american kids.
Well,Thank you for your Retorical input in these Educational De-Valued times.
But in America, college kids struggle with those questions.
European kids attend more hours of school than we do. That does not mean that they get a better education. Most of what I've learned in life didn't come from a class room.
Nu-uhhhhh!!!
They are clueless
I'm not sure but I am not out to prove one way or the other.
It's a difficult and touchy subject. Obviously the results show a very serious cause for concern but then again they are likely inflated and probably biased. It depend's where they surveyed the kids remember too. If for an American example you were to go into cities such as Detroit and Camden where poverty is high and schools usually lack funds, then the results would obviously be skewed. It should probably be examined by the teachers further however to see if any changes are needed.

As for Europeans being smarter than Americans, it probably holds some truth and some wrongs in it. We can't survey the entire population of the (developed) countries of Europe and the USA. Maybe Europeans are better than Americans at Geography but maybe Americans are better at math. Who knows?
