Magazine recommendations for a smart 8 year old?

My son is about to be 8, can read at a 5th grade level, and asks so many questions, it makes my head spin! He is into science and dinosaurs and just about any "info" he can get. He would rather read a science expirement book over a story most times. I want to get him a magazine subscription for his birthday. Any suggestions? I was thinking maybe the National Geographic for kids or something like that. Someone mentioned Zune or something like that? ANY help would be appreciated, thanks in advance! "National Geographic Kids" used to be called "National Geographic World," and it was the first magazine I ever subscribed to. I started receiving it in 4th or 5th grade, and I always looked forward to it. There were interesting articles on animals, science, nature, and from what I remember there were quizzes, games, little factoid pages, great photos, as well as contests from time to time. I highly recommend that one! http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngkids鈥?/a>

I'm pasting some info from a public library's website about other magazines you may want to check out:

"Odyssey" http://www.cobblestonepub.com/magazine/O鈥?/a>

The web site for "The science magazine for young adventurers!" Includes information about the current issue, sections on science news, science fun, a teachers guide, and links to webcams around the world! (Recommended for ages 10-16.)

"Boys' Life" http://www.boyslife.org/

Features the cover picture and contents from the current issue, but only selected articles are available online. Includes a section where you can download the plans for making various projects, such as stilts or a telegraph.

"Dig" magazine: http://www.cobblestonepub.com/magazine/D鈥?/a>

A Cobblestone publication produces in cooperation with the Archaeological Institute of America, Dig brings the excitement of archaeology and other earth sciences to readers, ages 9-14. Each issue focuses on a theme and contains information and activities, colorful graphics and photos to promote a broad understanding of the featured topic.

Another thing you could do would be to go to your local public library and see what magazines they have for kids there. Then you could browse through them to see if they look like they would be interesting to your son. Or even check out a few, if you can, and see which ones he goes for!
try zoo books and many national magazines have children editions like Time for Kids . I used to read DinoMag but i do not know if it is still around... How about for a project you two make you own magazine.he can add what he wants and it could always keep his intrest and it would be nice to look at them when he is olderMagazine recommendations for a smart 8 year old?
National Geographic is great and also Scientific American both are great for both kidsMagazine recommendations for a smart 8 year old?
From what you have said, you canreally get him a magazine like the national geographic. But keep in mind that you may not see the full picture of your child's wants and desires by just guessing, so it would be better if you asked him.

Let him choose what he wants if he has something in mind, and accept it if its proper.

Another thing that you could do is experiment and ask/find about his reaction about different mags. I mean buy him different mags monthly if you can. In all cases, choose one which you think is the best.
At that age my son loved Popular Science and Popular Mechanics.
Try to google for science things for him
The description fits my kid to a T. She loves Highlights for Kids magazine. It is more general, covers all kid related areas - including science, animals, sports, questions from kids, crafts.
