What do you think about Discovery channel and National Geographic shows for kids?

I have always been a little disappointed with these channels. When I was a kid, these channels had great stuff about dinosaurs, lost tribes, insects, monkeys. Now they seem to be loaded with danger shows. Like, how many times can a man in khakis harass this dangerous animal without being killed. Really violent stuff, and basically shows that only adults would watch for brainless fun. Shark attack!!!! You know, it is even to risky for me to watch a show about seals with my daughter because suddenly she is watching a little seal get repeatedly mauled by sharks in new and creative ways. Wow, how nice. Are you disappointed by these shows? Do you think there is any other programs about animals, insects, etc...that are still appropriate for kids? What do you think about Discovery channel and National Geographic shows for kids?
I agree that the quality really got worse lately.

Just a question though do Christians actually like their children to watch stuff like that? Can't imagine they would let their kid watch a documentary about the big bang or the rise of the dinosaurs.
my kids are fine watching baby animals get eaten... its the way of the animal kingdom, no different than the dead cows they eat in their burgers, or the dead chickens in their nuggets

i'm not into sugar coating reality and have no problem with the shows, although the BBC has the best documentaries if you're looking for dinosaurs and plants... with David Attenborough (sp?), can't beat him! What do you think about Discovery channel and National Geographic shows for kids?
Yeah, I hear you-I remember as a kid being so excited about the national geographic specials. We don't have cable, so I don't have those channels but back when I did most of it was crap..it makes me think of that old episode of South Park where the crocodile hunter went around finding animals and sticking his finger up their butt.....What do you think about Discovery channel and National Geographic shows for kids?
the question arises What Discovery? and To whom National? or even Geographic?
