A very old legend about creatures who gathered around the fire at night, hosted by a fox wielding a flute?

OK, so the question might seem a little misdriven so I'll try my danmdest to explain it.

Basically I remember a particular story way back to my childhood. My strongest memories of the story goes back to a verbal presentation given by my grandfather.

The legend consisted of an orange fox with a black tail awakening from a deep sleep. Immediatly the fox digs in the mud directly under his sleeping groove and discovers a flute. He gets up and walks to a large open area of the woods and discovers a campfire. After so he stands on his hindlegs and plays a prismatic melody with the flute.

Within seconds all different kinds of animals walk towards the campfire to confront the fox.

That's all I remember for now, I thought for the longest time it was just a kids tale that my grandfather told me to get me to fall asleep (I was 4). But I saw something very similar being played on National Geographic in some show about short stories.A very old legend about creatures who gathered around the fire at night, hosted by a fox wielding a flute?
It sounds like a native american story
Hello. I haven`t heard of this and if you get a definitive answer and want to. coud you, plz, email me the link or name if you have time, please?. It sounds as though it`s a real folk-fable and I am really into the meaning / s of them. And that your grandad told you means it`s likely a genuine, handed-down-the-generation moral fable. thanks if you do and I hope you find it anyways, for you.A very old legend about creatures who gathered around the fire at night, hosted by a fox wielding a flute?
