Why aren't most teens mature?

I'm 16 years old, and i have always disliked most of the teens (more like kids) my age. Whenever i want to start an intellectual conversation with a person, i just get laughed at or ignored. For that reason, i usually prefer to talk with adults or wise-older people. I find what they have to say is very interesting and educational, while the conversations with my friends seem to always be pointless and a waste of my precious time. I hate how most teenagers disregard the important things in life, while they focus on stupid things like parties and getting drunk. I hate how i get laughed at for watching national geographic or discovery science, while they watch two and a half men. I know you are all thinking that im a hardcore nerd(not that it is a bad thing), but i play all sports ( Im in the school soccer team) and im in the school band(not trying to brag about it:D). So, i guess what i'm trying to say is that by my age shouldn't they be more mature? I talk about science, life, and philosophy they talk about rebecca black.....that should sum up what im trying to tell you people:)Why aren't most teens mature?
Thats normal. Because many teens at this stage are not life experienced and do not in a sense carry a set of etiquette. Also many of their interests is based on superficial things, ones that lacks depth. When someone becomes older, they appreciate more and life, they want to lean things that have value and true meaning. Teenagers are chemically changing as they grow, that is why that balance of behaviour and other things are interrupted. Its a phase where they still havnt developed physically or mentally. You are however are a person of good knowledge it seems, as the post seems pretty accurate on what many teenagers are like today. I am not saying 'all teenagers' but many of them.
Different people mature in different ways and on different schedules. Who knows? In a decade or two, you might develop a taste for sitcoms. Try to live through it; the teen years don't last forever and you can find kindred spirits a lot more easily when you get to college. Why aren't most teens mature?
Cause unfortunately the brain of said teen is still developing, and sadly a lot of parents aren't raising their children right.

Heck my ex is 27 but she behaves like she is a 4 year old no joke. Why aren't most teens mature?
because many teens are emos, wiggers, potheads and hate their parents. This is the product of a non-christian society and americans love it
Most teens frontal brain development is not mature until into their 20's. My son is an exception like you, at 16 he was like a 30 year old in his thinking. But most are not that way.
Wait... you have friends?
its really a biological as it is an emotional question. There are two factors that play into why teens are not mature. One, their brain chemistry is still developing and going through dramatic changes that effect the way the person processes and interrupts information. That is why teens tend to do things they later regret in their lives, because they don't know any better. Second is the emotional immaturity of most teens. They simply don't have the relevant and volume of experience to deal with things that accompany young adulthood (first loves, relationships, self image problems). Simply put some teens are more mature than other but regardless all are still growing through changes in their brain which will effect their behavior and judgement.
